What are the areas of assistance that the
CST provides?
The CST for South and West Asia is equipped with expertise to
provide technical assistance in a wide range of subject areas including but not limited to
the following:
- Formulation of population policies;
- Integration of population concerns in development planning;
- Research on fertility, mortality and migration and their relationship to development;
- Assessment of programme needs and development of programme/project proposals;
- Improvement of quality of Reproductive Health and Family Planning Services;
- Designing of information, education and communication (IEC) strategies, developing and
pretesting of materials, launching of multi-media campaigns, and introduction/improvement
of population education programmes in formal and non-formal educational systems;
- Integration of gender concerns in all aspects of development, and;
- Providing advocacy and information counselling services;
- Capacity building in management of country programmes/projects (including skill building
for implementation, monitoring and evaluation);
- Training in related disciplines (including needs assessment, curriculum development,
training material development, programme management, attachment training activities,
etc.);
- Operations research activities, baseline studies, qualitative research including Focus
Group Discussion method), knowledge, attitudes and practice surveys.;
- Estimation of Contraceptive requirements, Logistics Management and Management
Information Systems;
- Special programmes concerning women, youth, the aged, AIDS and population and
environment.
