What is the CST?
Country Technical Services Team (CST) is an interdisciplinary group of population
experts that provide technical advice to developing countries on alternative ways
to address their population problems. Organized and coordinated by the United Nations
Population Fund (UNFPA), the CST consists of experts from the regional commissions of the
United Nations such as ESCAP and as well as from specialized agencies like the ILO, WHO,
UNESCO, UNFPA, and UNIFEM.
The CSTs are designed:
- to enhance the availability to countries in the region of technical knowledge, analysis
and research findings for use in population policies and programmes;
- to contribute to an integrated and coordinated multi-disciplinary approach to population
programmes;
- to accelerate the achievement of national self-reliance through the use and development
of national, regional, individual and institutional expertise, and;
- to ensure maximum utilization of research and analytical work in operational activities.
