BACKGROUND |
|||
|
RHCS is still an area of concern that remains elusive in many of our country programming documents. Since ICPD in 1994, many governments, bilateral and multilateral agencies have collectively established partnerships in an attempt to make RH commodities especially contraceptives more readily available and of good quality. In ICPD +5, UNFPA role was well defined by being urged to strengthen its leadership role within the United Nations system in assisting countries to take strategic action necessary to ensure availability of reproductive health services and choice of reproductive health products, including contraceptive. UNFPA has been and remains a leading stakeholder in promoting RHCS globally. Efforts have also been made in extending this global effort to country levels. It is in light of this effort that the CST team in Kathmandu in collaboration, UNFPA Country Office and the Government of Sri Lanka are collectively supporting a workshop on RHCS with emphasis on contraceptives.
